Why Should Schools Have Uniforms Essay Uniforms have been incorporated into a lot of school systems all around the world to bring similarities to the school community and to prevent negligence between students. I strongly affirm that Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School in London, Ontario, Canada should promote uniforms to eliminate the differences between rich and poor, compose a better school environment, and to symbolize unity and equality upon students. The first reason to why Banting should promote uniforms is to eliminate the differences between rich and poor. The unfortunate poor student wouldn’t have to be ashamed of what he/she doesn’t own since everyone is dressed up in the same clothes. Also instead of the poor trying to achieve what brands the rich students own like Channel accessories, Lululemon etc†¦, they would all fit in. There will be no distractions and therefore; it will allow students to concentrate on learning instead of competing in popular fashionable clothing. Finally the rich students won’t have the chance to brag about what fashionable clothes they bought or have but instead they are mutual the poor ones. Essentially, it prevents the rich students from pointing out the poor ones and offending their style. Promoting uniforms in general will initiate the poor’s self-esteem to absolute positivity. Secondly, Banting should promote uniforms to compose a better school environment. There are many styles of clothing, some appropriate for school and others are not. Students and the media pressure us to dress and look a certain way. Some clothing contains logos promoting drugs, alcohol or even violence. Midriff shirts, halters and miniskirts are advertised everywhere. Since students want to fit in and be appealing between students, they want to wear this type of clothing. In most school systems like Banting, however it is not allowed, but students still manage to somehow fracture the dress code and escape the consequences. Uniforms will eliminate these issues to create a purposeful learning place that students will arrive to rather than giving the opportunity to students to provoke inappropriate hidden messages and images that would ruin the minds of educating students. Therefore promoting uniforms will be a very beneficial triumph to the school environment. Lastly, Banting should promote uniforms to symbolize unity and equality upon students. I believe uniforms help unite students in a common goal which is to do well in school. It is a symbol of student’s unity. They demonstrate to everyone that they are more than just their clothes and that they are all individuals trying to achieve the same goal for their future professions. On the other hand, it symbolizes equality because it brings students together despite their religious background, race, gender, and style of clothing students choose to wear. Since students from different cultures choose to dress in their particular traditional outfit, they are sometimes neglected and treated unequally by the students and even teachers, an example of that would be bullying those individuals and/or being insincere about their presence. They are often treated as a foreigner who is considered to appear outside the norms thus, uniforms help those students to be more accepted and judged based on their personality rather than appearance. Therefore, promoting uniforms would increase the symbol of unity and equality between students to a gratifying extent. In conclusion, I believe that promoting uniforms in Sir Frederick Banting Secondary will eliminate the differences between rich and poor, compose a better school environment, and symbolizes unity and equality upon students. Uniforms assist in keeping everything in order and organized around the school. School is a tremendous part of our life journey and by promoting uniforms we are making our life simpler, therefore increasing the chance of captivating success and happiness.

How is our I-Function related to Impulsive Behavior? What are impulses? We experience impulses every day. Why are you wearing your orange shirt today? Why did you pick a salad for dinner instead of steak? Why did you drive one route to work as opposed to another? I suppose some people are more spontaneous than others, but can impulses be called sporadic? Uncontrolled? Are they valid choices you have made - or are impulses something we do not realize we are powerless to? Can we choose to say certain things? Do we have any choices? Who, or what rather, is in control? Some people have impulses that are not conducive to the decorum of society. Some people cannot explain their need, their impulse, to shout obscenities, to make strange faces at strangers, or to excessively mimic others around them. Tourette's Syndrome is one example of a disorder that causes a person to be overwhelmed by impulses to say and do things that they cannot control. Do impulses have varying degrees? And can some people more efficiently control these impulses, or channel the impulsive thoughts into something other than actions? Is our behavior conducive to the ability to monitor numerous impulses of all degrees? And I wonder what role I-function plays in behavior, if behavior is explained in terms of controlled impulses. I wrote my last paper on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the implications that this disorder has on our understanding of the I-function. OCD patients are overwhelmed by the impulse to do certain actions or rituals that calm their fears. These fears might be of germs, heights, strangers, or something less common. OCD sufferers are treated by attempts to help the patients teach themselves to overcome their impulses that relieve their unfounded fears. The question that arises is how the OCD sufferer can be aware of their unrealistic and unprecedented fears, but cannot control their impulsive behavior? We are not conscious of the blind spot when our brain 'fills in' the empty area created by the blind spot, and thus have no control over our blind spot. However, OCD patients are aware of their brain's autonomous control over their behavior that causes obscure actions and thoughts that are typical of OCD patients. The I-function is not involved in the blind spot, but is it or is it not involved in OCD behaviors? How can the OCD patient be aware of what is going on, but not be able to control himself?

Stan’s Future Self and Evil Cartman: Pop Culture Assignment By: Sachman Aul In the article Stan’s Future Self and Evil Cartman, Shai Biderman’s purpose of writing this article is to explain the idea of personal identity in South Park. This part of the book is targeted towards anyone who is studying or learning philosophy due to the fact that Shai explores the views of many philosophers that you have to know to understand his point that he is trying to make in this chapter. Biderman uses South Park as a clever way to get the attention of new readers, or teenagers.Therefore, the article allows people to read on philosopher’s theories on personal identity, in such a way to target and adult audience. Shai’s argument in this chapter is that South Park contains the questions and answers of many of the most asked philosophic question: what makes us, us? In order for Shai to support his argument, he uses several philosophers’ views such as John Locke , David Hume and lastly Thomas Reid. At the start of the article, readers begin exploring Shai Bidermans argument on personal identity, and how many episodes of South Park are discussed where personal identity comes into question.For instance, the retelling of stories on the bus, Stan meets his alleged future self and when the boys find an alternate Cartman which deals with being in the same place at the same time, Stan’s clone, Jenifer Lopez being Cartman’s hand, and Cartman drinking Kenny’s ashes. Biderman states that the most important thing in personal identity happens to the be brain, therefore people will soon enough change over time due to the changes of the brain. But in the episode â€Å"The Biggest Douche in the Universe,† Biderman explains how the actor Rob Schneider’s new film, changes his characters however is still portrayed as Rob Schneider himself.David Hume states that each of us appear to be â€Å"a bundle or collection of differ ent perceptions, which succeed each other with an inconceivable rapidity, and are in a perpetual flux and movement†. The concept behind Hume’s theory is that we all consist of feelings, consistently changing thoughts, and attitudes. In the article, it is quite clear that memory also plays its role in personal identity, and the change over time; therefore it is one’s memory that allows he or she to be the same â€Å"type† of person over time.John Locke happened to support the idea of memory, and stated â€Å"thinking intelligent being, that has reason and reflection, and can consider itself as itself, the same thinking thing, in different times and places† (pg. 207). However, Thomas Reid seemed to point out a downfall in the idea of memory, it may be important, but it doesn’t explain the true purpose for personal identity (pg. 208). Shai Biderman states that overall the question of personal identity is still in place. But what truly is it? Is it a sense of psychological experiences over time or better yet, physical experiences?It is without a doubt that this article tackled the arguments that were made by many supporting theories and the use of philosophers and other views. Therefore, it made it quite easy for any reader to get a general idea on the subject and the facts that were made related to pop culture, thus creating an interest for many. I truly believe that Shai Biderman’s arguments were definitely well supported with the evidence that was given, as well as the use of south park episodes to back up the argument.

America’s need for free Higher Education America is known for many things baseball, diplomacy, childhood obesity, McDonalds, and of its vast educational opportunities. Unfortunately many of these opportunities come at an expensive cost. The average for instate tuition at state schools is 9,410 dollars per year so times that by four years it’s a grand total of 37,640 dollars. This isn’t including meal plans, books, and room and board. The United States of America should provide free higher education, college, to all U.S. citizens. The U.S. would benefit from all that this would bring. The expenses that this service would cost is worth the advantages that it provides. There are many people that will be positively affected by a free college education. The greatest effect of free college education would be on high school students.
